Adult Mental Health
Good mental health increases your enjoyment and appreciation of all aspects of life, and improves your ability to cope with life’s challenges.
Let’s talk about you
“Mental strength is not the ability to stay out of the darkness; it’s the ability to sit present in the darkness knowing that the light will shine again.”
Adult Mental Health
Do you feel like you have lost yourself; like you are not the person you used to be?
Is it hard for you to find the motivation to do things you think you should do?
Are you a worrier?
Do you get so overwhelmed by some situations you find yourself avoiding them altogether?
In our Western world we live in times of high expectations, working long hours, studying hard and trying to keep up with what it seems society demands of us as a parent, in our home, in our exercise and dietary habits. At the same time we feel the pressure of society’s demands on us we find ourselves with less time for social and family connections and less time for fun. It is not surprising then that rates of depression, anxiety, stress and chronic health conditions are so high. So why don’t you make an appointment so we can figure this out together.
Psychologists often adopt a biopsychosocial approach to understanding why you are struggling with whatever you are struggling with right now. We know that there can be biological factors that influence our mental health. And there are other psychological and social factors that affect your mental health that we can do something about.
Some people have early life experiences that have had a long term impact on the way they think about themselves, others and the future. Some people have multiple stressful life events that build up to affect how they think and feel and yet others have one major chronic stressor that gets to them. Some people lack good social supports or the right kind of support and some could do with more strategies to cope with mental health problems.
Make your health and happiness a priority and make an appointment so we can figure out what is going on for you. Whether you suffer depression, anxiety, panic attacks, grief, stress, chronic health issues; let’s see what we can do to help you feel better. I can sit down with you and work on your goals for treatment using evidence based best practice therapeutic models including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR). Let’s work together to get the right fit for you.
